Custodial history:
Following the 1894 Local Government Act, Hale was under the jurisdiction of Altrincham Rural District Council, which was renamed the Bucklow Rural District Council in 1895. After residents of the town applied to the county authority to be reconstituted as an urban district, Hale Urban District Council was formed by order of Chester County Council on 31 March 1900. The district included the village of Hale Barns. Twelve members were elected to the Council. The first meeting of the Hale Urban District Council was held in the Officer's Drill Hall on Ashley Road on Monday 9 April 1900. From 1836, Hale was included in the Altrincham Poor Law Union, which was renamed the Bucklow Poor Law Union in 1895, until its dissolution in 1930.Following the Local Government Act of 1972, Hale was incorporated into the newly formed Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester. The first meeting of the new Council took place on 1 April 1974.
