Former presbytery and school of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, New Street, Altrincham

1814-c.2010s
Archives
Documents, ephemera and photos.
The material is accompanied by a printed document which gives some context to the location of the discovery of the items. According to this document, in 1858, Fr. Thomas Walton, rector of a church on New Street, bought two houses on the street. His successor, Fr. Henry Alcock, built the church of St. Vincent on the street, and served the parish for 47 years. In the house adjoining the presbytery, Alcock started a school in 1858.
An 1878 map of Altrincham held by Trafford Local Studies shows two adjoined buildings on New Street, close to Wellington Street, with St. Vincent Catholic Church behind them. The two adjoined buildings are in the same location as 77a and 77 New Street today [2021].
