A national school, St.Cuthbert's, was opened in Trafford Park in 1902 as a temporary school for 90 pupils; it closed in 1904 and a temporary iron building was erected. This lasted until the new school was built on Eighth Street in 1914. This had accommodation for 280 infants on the ground floor and 440 mixed infants on the first floor. The school closed when the Trafford Park housing estate was vacated
