In March 1935, the Council purchased from the Executors of Samuel Worthington-Wright, deceased, some 218 acres of land at Flixton, the bulk of this area lying on either side of the Cheshire Lines Railway and extending from Church Road on the south to Flixton Road on the north. The property included Flixton House and grounds
