The Stretford Gas Bill was 'promoted by the Stretford Gas Company for the purpose of obtaining Parliamentary powers for the increase in the capacity of the works. The Company seek to acquire land to erect gasworks at a cost of £160,000, which it is proposed to raise by the issue of new stock and debentures' (Manchester Evening News, 15 May 1899).
