The Altrincham Coat of Arms was granted in 1937. The wheatsheaves denote the Earldom of Chester. The cogwheel at the bottom of the shield symbolises Altrincham's engineering industries. The crest shows a lion passant guardant, similar to the Lion of England and the lion holds a cornucopia which is a symbol of abundance. This refers to the Borough's motto, 'Pax et Abuntantia', translated as 'peace and plenty'.
