Post Office brass letter weighing scales on wooden base, missing weights. Inscription on weighing plate: Postal Rates for Letters, Not Exceeding 4oz 1d; 6oz, 11/2d, 8oz, 2d, 10oz 21/2d, 12oz 3d, 14oz, 31/2d, 16oz 4d. Scales from the Old Sale Post and Telegraph Office, 15-17 Washway Road, Sale. The scales were given to Pat Coulburn of Sale Civic Society by Mrs Dorothy Hodgson nee Birkenhead, the granddaughter of John Birkenhead, the first Post Master for Sale.
