Chapel Street : 'the bravest little street in England'

Brady, Sheila2017
Book
Chapel Street was a row of old Georgian terraced lodging houses in Altrincham, home to some 400 Anglo-Irish lodgers. From this tight-knit community, 161 men from 60 houses volunteered for the First World War. King George V called it the 'the bravest little street in England'. The men fought in all the campaigns of the war, with 29 men killed in action and twenty dying from injuries soon after the war. This book highlights their journeys of war and peace.
