Depositor George Cogswell provided the following information: 'Our first international inter-sports centre competition organised by John Howard of ‘Seemore’ Travel was against Blankenberge, Belgium - a delightful little town south of Ostend. John organised the venue and the travel and I organised the teams from Sale, via the sports clubs that I was closely linked to either at the Leisure Centre or in the town. Unfortunately we were too good for them so sought better competition at Arnham.The “Bridge too Far’ paras, etc are buried at Papendal, so we were able to give everyone a WW2 history lesson and visit the graves of the 1,000 British servicemen buried in the woods there, killed during the Arnham debacle of 1944.'
