Note from owner: The photo was taken in the rear yard of Booth House, 18 Shaw's Road, Altrincham. It shows Arthur and James Pownall together with their mother Mary Eleanor Pownall (nee Crosby). In the 1911 census Mary is described as a Dress Maker.
Information on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission certificate for Arthur Pownall states: "In Memory of Private Arthur Pownall 42139, 1st/6th Bn., North Staffordshire Regiments who died on 03 October 1918 Age 19. Son of Mary Eleanor Pownall, of Booth House, Shaw's Rd., Altrincham, Cheshire, and the late Arthur Pownall. Remembered with Honour Vis-En-Artois Memorial"
