Residents in Ashton-on-Mersey are opposed to an outline application by Wilson's Brewery to build a pub at Mersey House, Carrington Lane. Moves to develop Mersey House have been made since as far back as 1955. Since 1969, six applications have been made. These have ranged from use as offices, a country club and a block of flats. In April 1978 an application was put forward to build offices and a contractor's yard. However, all the applications have been refused. It is understood that one of the main reasons has been because the site is on a dangerous bend in the road.
