Albert Street

[n.d.]
Archives
Albert Street originally called Farthing Street and led off Regent Road on the left-hand side of the Grapes Public House. The houses were probably built in the 1830's and the cellars were used by the occupants for silk weaving. At the bottom of the street were the schools maintained by St.Margaret's church. Albert Street and its more famous neighbour, Chapel Street were demolished as part of the slum clearance scheme of 1956.
