The Urmston Coat of Arms was granted to the Council in 1942. Links to ancient families are shown by the griffin from the Arms of the Traffords, the chevron and martlets from the Hydes and Asshawes and the squirrel from the Ormsetons. The Parish Church of Flixton is dedicated to St Michael, whose emblem the scales appears.
