Facsimile of Thomas Henshaw's writing age 77 written 20th Jan 1808 ' I was the youngest child living and only 2 years old when my father died when my brother Henry Henshaw was out of his apprenticeship, he had from his master 8(shillings) per week which was called good money in those days. 3 (shillings) 6 (pence) per month he gave his master for his Board meat drink washing and lodging 4 (shillings) 6 (pence) per week he had to find him clothes savings & spending money etc etc I believe he didn't spend one shilling foolishly in a year. out of his 4 (shillings) 6 (pence) he laid by 4 pence per week every Sunday morning in a bag for the Poor.
