Postcard showing the first tram car to Altrincham on the 30th of April 1907. Electric tram services from Manchester to Stretford reached Sale by 1906, and Altrincham by the following year. The first trial run took place on 30 April 1907, from Manchester to the terminus at the junction of Railway Street with the Downs and Ashley Road. This postcard shows the Special car no 263, with dignitaries aboard. Although the first tram, the line was not officially opened until the 9th of May 1907. Copyright: Bowden Series, S. Butler.
