A Month's Rustication in Altrincham by Walter Aston, Manchester 1825, transcribed by H. E. Gaddum. A preface by the author's son explains that 'the following extracts are from a journal written by my Father, Walter Aston, when on a visit to Altrincham in September and October 1825, he being then nearly twenty years of age . . . from this journal, which was the private record of a month's holiday as enjoyed by a youth of the period, who wrote unreservedly on all he heard and saw, we gain a vivid insight into the life and manners of the time'.
