Railway Street showing John Hewson Needham butcher shop at 34 Railway Street. The premises at number 32 were actually occupied in 1899 by Benjamin Battman as a florist, grandfather to Cyril and his son, Nurseryman in Timperley is spite of the Frys chocolate advert on the window. Mr Battman vacated his shop followed soon after by Mr.Needham who moved higher up Railway Street. The site was sold to the Lancashire and Yorkshire bank who erected a sandstone building between 1896 and 1900. On the left are the premises of J.H. Dean seed and wine merchants, who took into partnership George Wainwright, previously employed by Walkden and Downes, grocers on the Downs when the firm became Wainwright and Dean. The shop on the right was occupied by Frederick Johnson, Jeweller and Watchmaker.
