Bishop Blaize Inn, stood on the site of the present Talbot Hotel, Chester Road, demolished and a new hotel built in 1863. During the construction of the Bridgewater Canal, the Duke of Bridgewater his agent John Gilbert and his engineer James Brindley often stayed here. The first licensee of the Bishop Blaize was Thomas Siddall.
