The laying of the foundation stone to St Joseph's Primary School by Canon Andrew Campbell. When first appointed to Sale Parish some 30 years before Canon Campbell discovered that the school behind the church had been condemned some time before. The history of the old school dates back to 1900 when it was first built. Prior to that in 1866 a school chapel was opened in Hope Road . It was demolished in 1900 when the present building was erected for 270 children at a cost of £2,000.
